ABOUT HENRI STAR
Born and raised in Buffalo, NY, Henri Star Muhammad is an award-winning violinist, conductor, composer, recording artist, author, scholar, and educator.
Henri Star began violin studies when he was seven years old with the encouragement of his parents. He studied with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Eastman School of Music and graduated with honors from the Buffalo Academy of Visual and Performing Arts.
Muhammad School of Music
Henri Star comes from a family of changemakers.
His father was among Buffalo’s first Black firefighters, and his aunt, Beverly Johnson, was the world's first Black supermodel. Further, his mentor and violin coach, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, is a source of ongoing support and inspiration.
Henri Star upholds his legacy by making classical music accessible to young people everywhere. He holds a Master’s of Science in Education and created his unique teaching method to benefit hundreds of students throughout his career.
Henri Star is passionate about nurturing Black and minority students in their pursuit of classical music training. He founded the Muhammad School of Music (MSOM) in 1999 to create a nurturing environment where students can excel.
Now in its 23rd year, Henri Star and MSOM continue to serve students of all ages from Buffalo, the larger Western New York region, and Toronto, Canada.
