ABOUT THE SCHOOL
Henri Star comes from a family of changemakers.
His father was among Buffalo’s first Black firefighters, and his aunt, Beverly Johnson, was the world's first Black supermodel. Further, his mentor and violin coach, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, is a source of ongoing support and inspiration.
Henri Star upholds his legacy by making classical music accessible to young people everywhere. He holds a Master’s of Science in Education and created his unique teaching method to benefit hundreds of students throughout his career.
Henri Star is passionate about nurturing Black and minority students in their pursuit of classical music training. He founded the Muhammad School of Music (MSOM) in 1999 to create a nurturing environment where students can excel.
Now in its 23rd year, Henri Star and MSOM continue to serve students of all ages from Buffalo, the larger Western New York region, and Toronto, Canada.
MSOM also offers a virtual learning platform for students to train from anywhere. MSOM provides violin classes via schools throughout the City of Buffalo and hosts community outreach programs.
The MSOM Chamber Players and Maestro Henri Star have performed nationwide while appearing in television, radio, newspaper, magazine features, and recording projects.
